Senate Republicans want to slash the number of weeks an individual can receive unemployment payments and tie the length of benefit availability to the unemployment rate, but critics say that even if jobs are plentiful, it can still be a long process to find a good one.
Locally, according to a newly released Bureau of Labor Statistics report released on February 1, the Phoenix-Mesa-Scottsdale metropolitan area unemployment rate (not seasonally adjusted) saw a slight drop from 3.0 percent in November to 2.7 percent in December.
As released in the Bureau of Labor Statistics report on Friday, September 16 Arizona’s unemployment rate was 3.5 percent in August up from 3.3 percent in July.
The unemployment rate has declined to 3.2 percent, the lowest on record since 1976, when the current record keeping methods began to be used.
